Meditation for Beginners Workshop
with SYC's Becca Sweeney "Concentrating on not
Concentrating" October 26 1:00-3:00pm $30 per student Pre-registration by Oct. 23rd
Required! Register and Pay Now
Meditation
arms us with the tools to go about our life's path with more
peace, clarity and abundance. With a light hearted attitude,
we will indulge ourselves in a peaceful Yogic flow to prepare
the body for a short talk and a long meditation. The workshop
will focus on the philosophy, purpose, science and origin of
Yoga and meditation going hand in hand. We will dive into a
brief yet deep discussion of the infinite good reasons to
meditate, all the different ways to meditate and how to have a
solidified and regular practice.
This class welcomes all types of people
in all walks of life from the high schooler to the business
man to the stay at home Mom!
The
main goal of this two hour workshop will be to inspire the
participants to build a stronger ritual for a life of
laughter, ease and mental and physical health.
Rebecca Anne
Sweeney has been a Yoga student for twelve years.
She started doing Yoga in Cincinnati, Ohio where she was born
and raised and felt a strange drive to practice before there
were studios in every town and before the practice popularized
again in the 90's. As a college student she felt a strange
calling to become a certified teacher even before knowing why
she wanted to teach. After graduating from Savannah College of
Art and Design, the very next thing she did was seek out a
valid certification that honored multiple styles of Yoga in
the classic Hatha Yoga. In July of 2001 she was nationally
certified in the philosophy, teaching and business of Yoga
from the Yoga Institute of Houston, which boasts being one of
the very first Yoga studios in America. Her style of teaching
welcomes all people from beginner to advanced practitioners
who desire sweat, peace, calm, laughter and challenge. Her
philosophy is to practice many styles of Yoga and cultivate a
life of wellness, simplicity and peace.

Morning Programs
Shiva Namaskar Vinyasa Master Classes
Saturday 10:00am-1:00pm
Sunday 10:00am-1:00pm
Shiva
Namaskar Vinyasa series is a stairway to bliss that
reintegrates the continuous flow of prana (cosmic energy)
through the spinal column,
emanating deep into all areas of the physical, metabolic,
intuitive, and bliss body. The Divine active ingredients in
this amazing session
include carefully selected vinyasa sequences (asanas),
breathings (pranayamas), purification/cleansing techniques,
meditation with powerful and efficient methods, and most
importantly yama, “without which there is no success in Yoga”.
This amazing program is loved by
students of all styles of Yoga, rooted in classical teachings
with contemporary needs in mind. It promotes harmony within
all the koshas (layers), so an integrated state of
radiant health is achieved, bringing one closer to the true
Self within the heart. The carefully selected
Yoga
postures in the Shiva Namaskar Vinyasa series are
inspirational, using sequences that are designed to twist,
stretch, manipulate, and gain
control of the body. Practice of these asanas strengthens and
tones muscles, glands, and internal organs. The postures are
performed with
slow graceful movements, so fantastic feelings of inner calm
and self-control are felt immediately. With regular practice
weight
problems and disease are gradually brought to an end, health
and stamina are attained, and Self-realization can easily
follow. The progression flows in a uniquely
challenging yet meditative manner. Most importantly, Chandra
infuses the teachings of yama, dispassion,
reverence, surrender to the
Lord, and love throughout the session.
Evening & Afternoon Programs
Friday Evening—6:00pm-8:30pm
Yogic Secrets of Divine Purification
An
invaluable cleansing and detoxification program to help purify
the mind, the physical body and the subtle astral body of
toxic impurities,
evoking sattvic thoughts. Chandra
incorporates into this program Holy Discourses on the Yamas
and Niyamas, the ethical rules necessary for one’s
practice, understanding and success in
Yoga. This inspirational discourse also elaborates on the laws
of Karma, and the dietary laws of Yoga.
The
practice includes ancient breathing and
sound techniques, mantra japa, and meditation. Learn and
understand the benefits of practicing a Yogic
lifestyle. This purification leads to
higher states of physical and mental health, culminating
ultimately into blissful Self-realization.
Saturday—2:00pm-4:00pm
Yogic Secrets of
Self-Knowledge Every soul is Divine, though blinded by
maya (illusion) one remains oblivious of its highest spiritual
nature. In every heart the Divine light shines with undiminished luster.
You are born for Self-realization. In this spiritual
gathering, Chandra will impart stories and teaching from
direct experience from her years as a
full-time Yogi and Bramachari, a celibate religious student
who devotes themselves to spiritual disciplines.
Through contemplation on the answers
given, you will be able to remove all obstacles and pitfalls
in your daily Sadhana (spiritual practice), and have the opportunity to ask questions on
all spiritual topics. Learn to conquer old habits, burn
samskaras (negative impressions from the past), and control harmful thoughts and desires.
The greatest victory is the victory over the turbulent mind.
These are the lessons of love, peace and unity in diversity which maintains your
connection to God at all times.
The joy of Samadhi (Divine bliss), the
attainment of Moksha (liberation) and the tools for attaining these states will
be imparted to all participants. Through the help of these
lessons, you will be able to remove all obstacles
and
pitfalls in daily Sadhana (spiritual practice), and receive
new hope and joy in the spiritual line.
Sunday—2:00pm-4:00pm
Pranayama & Divine Meditation
Techniques
This program teaches and practices
Divinely revealed techniques that will prepare your mind for
the serious practice, greatly strengthening the
powers of concentration. Learn how to
draw your attention away from the noisy restless world and
place it within, where the truth lies.
Pranayama, the formal practice of
controlling the breath, serves as an important bridge between
the outward, active practices like asana, and the
internal, surrendering practices that
lead us into deeper states of meditation. This workshop
focuses on controlled Yogic breathing including
traditional
techniques such as the Alternate
Breathing and Breath of Fire, as well as more subtle
techniques including Nadi Vibrator, Nadi Stimulator,
Closed Circuit and Psychic Current
Pranayama.
Meditation stimulates the pituitary and
pineal glands in the base of the brain, balancing all the
systems of the body and enhancing mental sharpness and clairvoyance. Meditation
helps to create mental patterns that put power behind your
thoughts, and therefore make your thoughts powerful and creative. This practice will
show the way towards truth, light and the peace that surpasses
all understanding. It will create order and a quiet, safe and peaceful place
within where the truth lies. Removing the stress of daily
activities, calming the monkey mind, promoting one pointedness
of mind.

Power Yoga
Master Class Description:
Bryan Kest’s Power Yoga Master Class is a
well rounded flowing asana practice integrating mental
practices that enhance everyday living.
The class is intended to invigorate your body and help you
practice developing a calm less reactive state of mind with
dynamic flowing routines. In a Power Yoga workshop, you
are encouraged to focus on the process and not the end result.
This allows ALL levels of yoga practitioners to enjoy and
benefit from the workshop.
About Bryan Kest Bryan has
been practicing yoga for over 30 years and has been teaching
for over 24 years. He developed his unique, distinctive style
of yoga, Original Power Yoga, in 1979. Over the years, this
style, an amazing workout for the body, mind and spirit, has
made him a well-known, popular teacher across the country and
around the world.
His
mainstream popularity is matched by an authentic foundation in
the ancient practice of yoga and a long path of development as
a yogi (a practitioner of yoga). At age 15, Bryan uprooted from
his native Detroit
home to make a life change in Hawaii . He moved to live
with his father, a doctor, who understood the benefits of
yoga. Like many of us, Bryan
originally thought yoga was nothing
more than strange contortions, but that changed when his
father introduced him to a physical style of yoga called
Ashtanga. This appealed to him immediately, and he soon
observed great changes in
himself, both physically and mentally. Yoga quickly became his
passion, one that would take him to India for a year to
study with the great yoga masters of the world, Pattabhi Jois.
He has been continuing on his yoga path ever since.
Bryan founded three studios in Southern
California ( Santa
Monica and Calabasas). He also teaches
at workshops and retreats around the world; provides an
intensive teachers training program; and is featured in his
own Warner Brothers video series from 1995, as well as a newer
video series and audio CD series. For articles by Bryan and more information
about Power Yoga, visit www.PowerYoga.com.
